  1. What are you wearing today, and where is it from ? : The necklace is from H&M, the shirt is from Urban Outfitters, and the jacket and jeans are from a German brand.
  2. What are your favorite brands/stores? : H&M, Urban Outfitters, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Hollister.
  3. What does fashion mean to you? : Most of the time, fashion means just waking up and wearing whatever looks good for school. In my free time, I wear whatever is most comfortable for me.
  4. Where do you get your fashion inspiration from ? : What other people wear.
  5. If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be ? : Some of my favorite clothes, like something I’m wearing right now.

With the Number Three Pick the 76ers Take…… -Sports Talk With the Straight Shuter

The Philadelphia 76ers have had one of the worst seasons in the history of sports let alone basketball. The sad part, they still had a better record than the Milwaukee Bucks. The entire bad season was an effort by the Sixers organization to get the first pick in the NBA draft since they did not feel they could contend for the title this year. Thanks to the lottery process where the worst 14 teams draw ping pong balls to see who gets what pick. The Sixers ended up with the third pick in the draft. This can be looked at as good, since their are three top prospects in this draft, or bad since the Sixers wanted their choice of the three, and based on their record and the rules of the lottery the Sixers could have gotten the fourth pick as the worst case scenario, getting the third is not much better.

 

Whatever you want to say about it, the fact of the matter is that the 76ers have the third pick in the draft. This means that they get whoever is left out of the top three prospects in the draft. The three options are as follows:

Andrew Wiggins (Kansas Jayhawks), Shooting Guard/Small Forward, 6’8” 200 LB:

Andrew Wiggins is the best prospect in the draft in my opinion. He has the complete package, he is a very raw specimen, but he is very complete. What I mean by this is that Wiggins, when he sets his mind to it, is unstoppable. He can score any which way, and he is unbelievably skilled on defense. His 44” max vertical is unparalleled, he has very quick feet and his very fast. At the same time he is very raw, he can get shut down early and then when he is frustrated he is shut down the rest of the game. He needs to be developed, it might take some time, but if a team is willing to wait a year or two for him, they will be very happy with their investment. Wiggins has a high ceiling.

Joel Embiid (Kansas Jayhawks), Center, 7’0” 250 LB:

Joel Embiid is the most fascinating prospect in the draft. You know how I said that Wiggins is raw but has a high ceiling, take the image of Wiggins I described and multiply it by two. Embiid a Cameroonian (Africa) prospect, just starting playing basketball in 2010, having been a volleyball player before that. He is already one of if not the top prospect in the draft. Embiid has outstanding defensive capabilities, and is a highly productive scorer for a big man. He can even hit three pointers if he wants to. The issue with Embiid is that he missed the end of the season with a back injury and now teams are worried that it will become a recurring issue.

Jabari Parker (Duke Blue Devils), Small Forward/Power Forward, 6’8” 241 LB:

Jabari Parker is very different from the other two top prospects. Jabari is the best offensive weapon of the three, he can score better than the other two top prospects. The other plus about Parker, is that he is the most NBA ready prospect of the three. His ceiling isn’t as high, but if a team is looking for an immediate impact player, Parker is their guy. The downside to Parker is that he is extremely weak on defense. He has clumsy feet when guarding the outside and is too small to guard the inside.

 

So who are the 76ers going to get? It’s hard to find out because they get whoever is left of the three, so lets narrow it down.

1) Not Andrew Wiggins. The sad truth is that I find it very hard to believe both the Cleveland Cavaliers (1st Pick) and the Milwaukee Bucks (2nd Pick) pass on his upside.

2) Both the Bucks and Cavaliers need a center, but are scared of injuries. This means that they both want Embiid, but only if he passes the physicals that the team gives him. So if he passes and the word gets out look him to be taken, if he doesn’t pass look for him to not get drafted.

3) Both teams could use Jabari Parker, which means that if their is even the smallest question with Embiid, they will not hesitate to take Parker.

So……

We have learned that if Embiid is even the slightest bit hurt, he will be a 76er (barring a surprise visit from a lesser prospect). If Joel Embiid is healthy I predict Jabari Parker to be a 76er.

    • I’m wearing gry jeans from H&M, Doc Martens, a denim shirt from tobi.com, and jewelry from Cookie Lee.
  • What are your favorite stores/brands?
    • American Eagle, H&M, Forever 21, and Urban Outiftters. But I do like to find and visit new places.
  • What does fashion mean to you?
    • It means having your own style and wearing what you wanna wear. Like it’s to look good and right for yourself and not have to worry about what other people think about your clothes.
  • Where do you get your inspiration from?
    • I don’t like to copy off of others or start any trends. I buy stuff that I just like for myself and what looks right on me.
  • If you had to wear one oufit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    • I guess I would wear long tunics and tights.

Food Review: Penang

Philadelphia is known for having fine wining and dining. My family is constantly eating at new places and different cuisines.

Penang is a Malaysian restaurant located in Chinatown. The food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the ambiance is great.

I’m no stranger to Penang and their superb dishes. The starring dishes are the Roti canai (a doughy bread that is dipped in a chicken sauce with many spices), Mee siam (a noodle dish that is on the more spicy side with shrimp), and the Penang curry ayang (chicken in a sauce similar to the Roti canai).

The service is very friendly (and now recognizes my family every time we go). The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. There are dark wooden tables and chairs, with a unique tiling on the walls. You are also able to see into the kitchen as your food is made.

Penang is one of my favorite restaurants, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Chinese or Thai food, and loves spices.

Murals in Philadelphia

The Mural Arts Program began in 1984 as part of the Anti-Graffiti Network. Jane Golden, who beforehand worked co-founder and director of the Los Angeles Public Art Foundation, was hired to fight against the Graffiti throughout the city. To do so she convinced the Graffiti artists and writers to put their talent to painting murals instead.

The approach that was taken by Mural Arts Program helped to limit graffiti and vandalism all while creating murals and beautifying the city. They did not only solve the issue but the city as a whole benefited from it immensely and used art to unite communities. Jane Golden is responsible for creating 2,000 murals with the program. It was 1996 when Ed Rendell, who was the mayor at the time, officially stated that the Anti-Graffiti Network was to be converted into the Mural Arts Program.

Since 1984 the Mural Arts Program has developed and is now not just a fight against graffiti but also a way to help people find a voice and tell their story through what they paint. They are responsible for over 3,600 murals in Philadelphia and for the overall transformation of Philadelphia’s walls to the blossoming of culture. They have created the largest collection of public art and now use the murals to attract tourists on the Mural Arts Tours.
